The primary concept for the house was a ‘wall of glass.’

The surface of the cantilevered deck is dropped a few inches below the level of the top story. I learned this device from Frank Lloyd Wright. From above, the down-stepped floor plane makes the outward view appear bigger. But from the bedroom suite on the middle story underneath, the low ceiling plane produces an intimate feeling of enclosure.
