We sought to turn a modest house into a gallery-like setting for this artist’s world class collection of paintings. We embraced simplicity.
On the main level, we removed upper cabinets from the kitchen and replaced that storage space with a vertical mass of cabinets flanking a side wall. This cabinet block, echoing an existing architectural mass, helps create a sense of proportion, order and balance. Lighting is integrated with the structure, the cabinetry and the architecture. New panoramic windows were cut through the walls. The result is a clarified interior that both connects with the view beyond, and provides an elegant backdrop for a wonderful art collection.
